Organisms have various mechanisms for obtaining nutrients and eliminating wastes
Maintaining Homeostasis
Maintaining Homeostasis
- The key function of the excretory system is maintaining homeostasis
- It can be done by
- Regulating water balance
- Removing harmful substances
- Nitrogen cannot be recycled within an animal, so it needs to be removed, which is also a part of the process of maintaining homeostasis in organisms
- How they are connected-
- Animals need to get their energy from other living things--> plants: which go through photosynthesis. Animals also need elemental oxygen, and photosynthesis produces this as a waste product as well
- One group's waste is another's treasure!
